Holiday Happenings on Teach For Us

I have maximized my relaxation time thus far over break, spending time with family, enjoying good food, actually sleeping and spending very little time on lesson planning and absolutely no time on grading!  Hopefully, you have been able to relax and enjoy the holiday season too.

In keeping with the spirit of the season, I thought it would be apropos to share some of our bloggers’ Holiday-related posts with you.

First, we have a Winter Break reflection by Be The Change…

Here’s the truth of the matter: I miss my kids. I miss my school. And I miss my job. Now, don’t get me wrong – I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my break thus far, and plan to enjoy the last few days as well. But, this break has made me realize how much I really do love my job. I was talking with my best teacher-friend at my school the other say and she sent me a message that said this: “I. MISS. Our. Kids.” And I wrote back: I’m glad I’m not the only one who is this pathetic.

Followed by a heart-melting story from mathinaz

When she got through a whole week with unbelievably perfect behavior, I pushed her again on what she wanted. It took her another two days to think of something, but finally she came up with it.

She came to me after class and shyly said, “We can’t really get presents for Christmas this year. For my reward, do you think you could give me a Christmas present?”

And we’ll cap off this post with some TFA holiday humor from River Deep, Mountain High

Q: What is Taylor Swift’s desired Teach for America Summer Institute job?

A: She wants the CMA position (Corps Members Advisor)!

Q: Why did MC Hammer’s KIPP-inspired charter school, “MC High School” fail?

A: All the kids refused to do work and went around chanting: “U can’t teach this!”

QScience Exit Ticket: “Describe the purpose of evidence as it relates to a hypothesis  based on Nicki Minaj’s Khan Academy video?”

A: You need evidence to back that thang up!
